Visit to National English High School

On 14 February 2020, our FYB.Ed students had an enriching time at National English High School (ICSE) Virar where they saw how every inch of space can be converted to a learning niche. Ms Gaurangini Kulkarni Shetty and Mr Shreeyas Shetty oriented the students. Later they conducted a workshop on Charged Classrooms where students learned different ways to have dynamic and energised classrooms . 





Expert Talk on Wholeness of Human Life

Sr Mary Juan of the Missionaries of Charity addressed our students and emphasised the need to lead a life with a focus on concern for humanity. She shared her own experiences of working with the marginalised and how such an experience can be an opprotuntiy to find God in others. 



Seminar on Eat Right for a Healthy Life

Ms Rishika Cerejo, Food Nutrition and Lifestyle Coach orinted the students on the topic 'Eat Right for a Healthy Life' wherein she emphasized the need to have a balanced diet and exercise. She also made the students aware of food items that can be detrimental to one's health. The session was interactive and helpd to dispel many myths regarding food habits.



Interaction with Experts

On 7 January 2020, Prof. Marissa Rollnick of Marang Centre for Mathematics and Science Education, University of Witwatersrand, Johannesberg,    South Africa visited the college and interacted with the faculty and students. She presented her views on Essential Elements of Teaching for Meaning, emphasing on the importance of 'wait time' after asking questions, need to consider the  pedagogical content knowledge and the significance of tacit knowledge of teachers. She was accompanied by Ms Linda Crawford who shared her experiences of indigenous mushroom farming and veternary pharmacy. Dr. Narendra Deshmukh of Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education co ordinated the visit. The visit gave us insights into the nature of Teacher Education in Johannesberg. The team also visited our sister institution St Aloysius School and interacted with students.





 


Workshop on Puppet Making

On 6 July 2019, students of S.Y.B.Ed participated in a  workshop on Puppet Making. Dr Cynthia DCosta,  Ms Heather Gabriel and Sr. Helen Correa co ordinated the session  Students functioned as Resource Persons. 

Ms Simran D'Mello gave inputs on making card paper puppets. 



Ms Ria Pereira demonstrated how to make glove puppets and puppets using clothes clips.


Ms Riya Correa taught to make sock puppets. 



Ms Khadija Kachwala oriented the students towards making puppets using paper bags. 


 The demonstrations included use of puppets in actual teaching. After the demonstrations, students worked in groups to prepare attractive puppets. 










Guest Lecture on Global Careers in Teaching

On 20 July, Mr Amit Rodrigues and Ms Judreka Rodrigues oriented our students to global careers in teaching. They shared their own journey of how they prepared for placement in international schools. Amit is presently working with Ministry of Education, Dubai, UAE and Judreka is a teacher at GEMS School, Dubai. They shared various interactive teaching-learning practices that they use in their workplaces. they also answered students' queries regarding placements abroad. 






Orientation to Teacher Eligibility Test (TET)

On 23 September 2019, Dr Cindrella DMello,Assistant Professor St. Teresa's Institute of Education, Santacruz  oriented the S.Y.B.Ed students on the topic 'Teacher Eligibility Test(TET)'. She explained the background, nature and preparation required for this test. Dr Cindrella also delved into the process of applying and the different types of papers that candidates have to attempt. She conducted a mock TET using Kahoot thus making the entire session very interesting. 




Session on 'Growth Mindset'

On 3 October 2019, Ms Audrey Carvalho conducted a session on Growth Mindset. The session focused on setting expectations, ways to foster brain plasticity and transit from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset. The participants had  an interesting time delving into attributes of a growth mindset and reflected over how they could work towards nurturing a growth mindset. 





Session on Learning Experiences in IB Schools

Ms. Audrey Carvalho conducted an interactive Session for students of S.Y.B.Ed and oriented them to various constructivist techniques employed in IB schools. Use of project based learning, inquiry based techniques and interactive tool kits were explored.
